The new extension of Bengaluru Metro’s purple line on Mysuru Road will be open for public from August 30. The 7.53 km long stretch line was inaugurated by the Union minister of housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday.

The purple line of the Namma Metro has six stations- Nayanadahalli, RR Nagar, Jnanabharathi, Pattangere, Kengeri Bus Terminal and Kengeri. The services will be operated at a frequency of 10 minutes between Kengeri and Baiyappanahalli from 7 am to 8 pm.

It is expected that more than 75,000 people would travel on the purple line daily, said the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited(BMRCL). Hardeep Singh Puri said that the city has been one of the major engines of economic growth for the country with a strong presence in IT, biotechnology and many other sectors of industry.

Union Minister further added that since the inauguration of the first metro line in Delhi, around 730 km of metro lines have become operational in 18 different cities. Metro is not only a lifeline of Bengaluru, it should be its ‘future line’, said Hardeep Singh.
